ESL and Literacy Experience
This exciting joint effort between LVSC and Spotlight Learning is to promote goal-oriented ESL learning. Jacqueline Flamm, the director at Spotlight Learning, has been involved with Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County as tutor, tutor-trainer, board member, and advisor and is coordinating this collaboration. Jacqueline is an ESL teacher, teacher trainer, and textbook writer and has established many English-language-teaching programs both in the United States and abroad.
Spotlight Learning is the educational division of PrintPOD, Inc. The Spotlight team has been creating educational materials for over 20 years, specializing in ESL/EFL. Our affordable classes are held in friendly community libraries and consist of small groups of students. Although students within a class have different objectives, they are at a similar level of English proficiency so that the teacher has a common basis for helping each person reach an identified goal.
Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC)
The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County is to promote literacy in the community through student-centered tutoring and programs for low-literacy adults.
LVSC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization accredited by ProLiteracy America. We are located in Bridgewater, NJ and serve communities in Somerset County and the surrounding area. We recruit and train volunteer tutors who help adult students needing to improve their reading, writing, and conversational English. Our services enable students to obtain new jobs, get better paying jobs, become US citizens, help their children with school work, continue their education, and lead more productive lives.
Since 1981, LVSC has been providing free one-to-one and small group tutoring to functionally illiterate adults through a network of volunteers trained in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages. We also offer ESL classes and English conversation groups.
